《星球大战》系列中，角色扮演类型几乎没有，LucasArts也想转变思路，扭转该系列持续低迷的局面。《星球大战：共和国武士》（Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic）就是一个以星战为主题的角色扮演游戏，而且居然是以开发《博德之门》和《无冬之夜》而成名的BioWare亲自操刀。星战的未来世界与BioWare擅长的魔法中世纪直接碰撞，相信能令无数玩家痴迷，其实BioWare最早开发的《孤胆枪手》（MDK）就是科学幻想题材的游戏。E3大展上LucasArts展示了《星球大战：共和国武士》（Star Wars:Knights of the Old Republic）的演示版，尽管从中获取的资料十分有限，不过还是可以对这个游戏作一些评价。
